Hard Assets

Now that we have addressed the soft assets, it is time to check out the hard assets. Out of the items listed, it is the laptop that is the most important. Hence, I will only be reviewing the deals you can get on laptops during the Black Friday season.

The other items can be considered more like commodities that you can research yourself once you are inside Amazon, or anywhere else for that matter.

Laptop

The engine of this enterprise is the laptop. This is where you create your website, fill it with amazing content, and perform the magic that will rank your content on the first page of the search engines. That is where your customers will click your content, like your recommendations, and click your affiliate links to make their purchase. And voila, you will earn commissions.

There are several factors that will help you to decide what laptop to purchase yourself. By the way, your computer doesn’t have to be a laptop. For this article, I decided to focus only on laptops. This is the direction that most businesses are going in.

Let’s review the most important features necessary to help you in making that decision.

PC or Mac

The first question is should you get a PC or a Mac? In truth, it doesn’t matter. Since a great deal of time is spent creating content, when you are starting out, a modest laptop can be totally acceptable. When your business is generating repeatable income, that would be a good time to upgrade. In this way, you will have the benefit of a more powerful and up-to-date computer when you most need it.

Other factors such as the screen legibility and size, and keyboard quality influence the work experience and may take precedent.

I am going to define a minimum overall specification that I believe is what an affiliate marketer should look for in a laptop. If you disagree, that is OK. Please let me know in which areas and why in the comments section below.

Screen Size

If you plan on using your laptop in the office most of the time, the screen size is not as critical compared to using it on the go. This is because you can always connect an external monitor with a large screen. In fact, I highly recommend doing just that because it helps to fit more on your screen that boosts productivity.

My recommendation is to select a laptop with a screen size no less than 14″ diagonal, and use it with an external monitor having a minimum screen size of 21″. If you don’t plan on using an external monitor most of the time, my recommendation is to use a laptop with a screen size from 15″ to 17″.

Procesor And RAM Memory

In the PC World, I recommend getting a laptop with an Intel i3 processor as a minimum or an AMD Rizen 3. Lower power processors should only be used if your budget was truly constrained. These will work but may require upgrading sooner rather than later.

Select a processor with 8 GB internal RAM memory. This will help you keep more windows open without compromising performance compared to 4 GB. Once again, the latter will work, but you may need to upgrade sooner rather than later.

You can find PCs with the internal components described here from $300 to $500 for a very decent piece of equipment for your affiliate marketing business.

What about Macs? Macs that use Intel processors, the same consideration will apply. Macs in general cost more than PCs. However, a comparable PC is not much different in price today to a Mac. This changed last year for mid-range laptops.

just over a year ago, Apple changed course and started producing their computers using M1 processors designed by their own engineers. Apple had been doing this for years in their iPhone business. The M1 technology leapfrogs Intel’s processors, and by definition, performance.

Another important consideration when comparing a PC to a Mac has to do with the processors. Macs that use Intel processors, can run software designed for PCs. Apple will be phasing out using the Intel chips in 2022.

When considering a Mac with its M1 processor, it all depends on the company that created the software. My advice for you is to do your homework first before making the decision whether to get an M1 Mac or a PC. However, in affiliate marketing, Macs are commonly used today as PCs.

Built In Storage

Do not get a laptop with a conventional hard drive. You don’t need massive internal storage these days with low-cost external hard drives available. Plus, the cost of solid-state drives (SSD) has dropped significantly, you can find laptops with reasonable high capacity SSD’s.

Besides eliminating the risk of hard drive failure and loss of data, it keeps the weight and overall size of the laptop low. The trend is going this way. I have seen laptops with 1TB SSD drives. Sure, they are costly, but this will change with time.

Laptop Black Friday Deals

Here is a choice of 5 Windows PC laptops that meet or exceed the criteria I discussed above, with a couple of exceptions. I will sumarize the key specifications to the right of the pictures.

Note that each is from different manufacturers. Ony the Lenovo has a Hard Disk Drive. It also happens o be the only model with a 17″ screen. I added this model for those who prefer to have loads of storage amd a large screen. In this case 1 TB is achieved using the hard drive instead of a SSD.

The HP model has a touch screen that can be folded back to give presentations easily. Having a 14″ screen with one of the highest resilution displays, the image will appear very crisp that makes it ideal for this purpose.

If I was making a choice, it would be the Asus. It has a backlit keyboard, just like the Acer, which makes it easy to use in dark spaces. The CPU has a 8 GB memory that is preferable to anything less. And the price is in the middle of this group.

Honestly, any of these models will be excellent for use in an affiliate marketing business. It comes down to personal preference. Which one would you prefer? Or perhaps it may be something totaly different.

I would like to touch on upscale laptops in the $1000 price point for those who may have the budget to afford this amount. Hands down, the laptop with the highest performance and the lowest price, is wait for it……………..the laptop with the M1 chip made by Apple.
